Punjabi Matrimonial occasion reflects the elaborate tradition of Punjab and also their enthusiasm. Music and dance is an integral part of Punjabi Matrimonial ceremony. Marriage is usually fixed within their own community. Caste and family backgrounds of the prospective bride and the groom are checked. However, people are opening up and accepting other communities as well, which is highly appreciated. Horoscopes are matched and the marriage date is fixed.

The pre-wedding Punjabi ritual starts with “Roka Ceremony”. It is carried out to get assurance from both the families that they are carrying out the marriage. A family get together takes place. “Shagan”is arranged at the boy's house. The pundit performs a “Havan” which is considered auspicious. After that the relatives of the girls family blesses the boy and offers him gifts.

“Chunni Chandan” takes place at the girl's home. The in-laws offer her a red color sari and jewelery and places a red veil on her head. It ends when the prospective bride and groom have exchanged rings with each other. Then follows the Sangeet ceremony.

The maternal uncles and aunts play a vital role in the “Churha”ceremony. They adorn the wrist of the bride with red and cream color bangles. Every one in the family touches it to bless her. The aunts and uncles fast till the ceremony gets over. Mehandi ritual is followed there after.

The Punjabi Wedding begins when the groom gets ready for the marriage. The groom's father then ties a “sehra”on the grooms head. He reaches the bride's home riding on horse back. The procession which follows him is called “Baraat”.

Milni Ceremony is performed after the barat reaches the brides house. They are given a warm welcome by giving flower garlands and also by sprinkling rose water on them. The brids's relatives also presents them variety of gifts.

The exchange of garlands or Varmala takes place between the bride and the groom. Both the families indulge in fun to celebrate the auspicious occasion. The wedding takes place at the scheduled time, which has been chosen by the priest. At that time the sister in laws of the groom hides his shoes, which he will be returned back if he is able to pay the amount they ask for.

The girl is then led to the mandap, where the marriage will be held. Kanyadaan is done by the brides father where he gives his daughters hands to the groom. Then pheras are performed before the sacred fire. The wedding ends with the newly wed couples seeking the blessings of the elders.
